With regard to all the questions surrounding the tour and LIV Golf, there are currently more questions than answers regarding the future of the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour announced a significant development on Wednesday night: Tiger Woods will serve as Vice Chairman of the new for-profit organization. PGA Tour Enterprises will have Jay Monahan as CEO, according to Sean Zak of Golf Magazine.
There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the PGA Tour’s future. Having one of the greatest golfers in history as one of your main voices, though, can’t be bad. There will be a meeting soon to elect the board chairman.
Additionally, it reaffirms Woods’ commitment to the PGA Tour. Jon Rahm recently reported that he had not received a response from Woods following his signing with LIV Golf. The tour and Strategic Sports Group closed a deal a few months ago for the tour to invest $3 billion into a new for-profit company. Among those investors is Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank.
Prior to LIV Golf assuming control, Blank owned the PGA Tour Superstore, and business was good. It was predicted that the company would have almost 100 stores by 2026. However, things haven’t been going well, and fewer people are watching the PGA Tour on TV for the 2024 season.
Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods were going to start a golf simulator league (TGL). The event was scheduled to begin in January 2024, but the tent will need to be rebuilt because the venue was destroyed. The venue is located in Florida. The launch was postponed until 2025. The world’s best golfers, including Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, and others, have committed to play in the league.
More than fifty well-known celebrities have invested in the league, including Shaquille O’Neal, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Durant, Darius Rucker, and Steph Curry. The first TGL team was acquired by Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian and his spouse, Serena Williams.
Along with Rory McIlroy, Woods will participate in the TGL league and own a portion of a team. We’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out.
